'The Mashie 18' - An unforgettable Day.
This day will give your guests a unique vintage golf experience.
From the moment they arrive and are greeted by our team they will be transported into another era;
the era of Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen, the glamorous and stylish 1930's. Our costumed team will be available throughout the day.
Whilst dressing the part is not obligatory for guests, we believe it helps make the day much more memorable and fun. We are very happy to provide advice on clothes of the period prior to your event. We are also happy to discuss providing outfits if required. Our favourite clothing provider is Oldfield Outfitters in Norfolk. We will provide 72 sets (66 right handed and 6 left) of beautifully restored Hickory shafted golf clubs in leather and canvas vintage style pencil bags. Each set consists of a Wood, Long or Mid Iron, Mashie,
Mashie Niblick, Niblick and Putter. Each bag is equipped with a golf umbrella and towel.
Guests will be given an introduction to playing with hickory clubs by our Hickory Professional, an ex English Hickory Champion. We will give a brisk walk through the history of hickory golf, its characters and equipment. The team will then help guests find their 'hickory groove' on the practice ground before their round begins. A period Gramophone will play tunes from the period as your group assembles and they will be
offered something soothing by our Starter to settle any first tee jitters.
All players will be given a bespoke SEHGC goodie bag with wrapped McIntyre replica period mesh balls, custom pitch mark repairer, ball marker and custom wooden tees. One of the team will accompany guests over the first hole to ensure all players get off to a great start. Guests will have the chance to win a hickory putter when they challenge our
Hickory Professional on a Par 3 hole. For those guests who have never played hickory, our Hickory Professional will be at
hand to help them get a feel for the clubs and maybe hit their first hickory golf shot.
We are happy to provide refreshment ideas should you wish to provide 1920's/30's themed refreshments as part of the day.
The Mashie (Vintage Craft addition.)
All of the above plus non golfing guests will have the opportunity to learn vintage crafts such as knitting, weaving or basket making. At the end of the day they will have learned a new skill
and take home a unique hand-crafted memento of the day.
The Mashie (Vintage Dance Evening addition);
All of 1&2 above but this option would extend into the evening (subject to the suitability of the venue.) Our vintage dance instructors will be on hand to teach guests some 1930’s dance steps and practice their moves before changing for an evening vintage dance event with a Gramophone DJ, dance tuition and cocktail Mixologist!
